A clinical fellow specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, balance, and lateral skull base disorders in children and adults. As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. David’s scientific focus is on the combined application of molecular neuroscience and computational biology techniques to understand inner ear development and mammalian models for hearing loss to discover new therapies for age-related and noise-induced hearing loss.
About
Dr. Abel David is from the Washington, D.C. area and attended Virginia Tech as an undergraduate and graduated with a B.S. Biochemistry degree. He completed his medical school training at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine and matched into the Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery residency program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). His research interests include the use of single-cell RNA sequencing and downstream analyses of animal models of inner ear development, age-related hearing loss, and noise-induced hearing loss to ultimately discover new therapeutic molecular targets.
Comprehensive Fellowship Training
Dr. David’s fellowship training in Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear/Harvard Medical School encompasses several clinical sites including: the Massachusetts Eye & Ear, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. His surgical mentorship is under the direction of Daniel J. Lee, MD and for combined skull base surgery cases, Dr. Frederick G. Barker in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. David performs his research at the Eaton-Peabody Laboratories, one of the largest and longest-standing auditory research centers in the world, under the mentorship of David H. Jung, MD PhD and is funded by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Foundation Bobby R. Alford, MD Endowed Research Grant.
